The Book of Mormon -2 Nephi – Chapter 4 | Verse 14
The Second Book of Nephi
Another Testament of Jesus Christ
For I, Nephi, was constrained to speak unto them, according to his word; for I had spoken many things unto them, and also my father, before his death; many of which sayings are written upon mine other plates; for a more history part are written upon mine other plates.
This reminds me about something my father taught me; to be quick to observe, and when I considered one of his teachings: “When you are doing something-+, something you shouldn’t do, do not excuse yourself just because others are doing it.” This had stuck with me, Laman was predictable moments after Lehi died (in an eternal sense it was always bound to happen; because without Christ there is no change of heart (everything must proceed as if no redemption was made): you have no rudder in eternity without Christ you will speed forward towards oblivion if you do not know where you are going. Laman wanted to lead everyone to hell with him because he didn’t want to be alone. And perhaps Lehi’s words that Laman’s children would be treated with mercy by the Lord actually encouraged Laman to proceed because in his mind nothing bad would “surely” happen to everyone else because of his actions.
Nephi had plans for the future of his children: Laman did not want Nephi dividing their labors from his idea of their eternity (futurity on steroids).
