The Doctrine and Covenants
And now, behold, I give unto you, Oliver Cowdery, and also unto David Whitmer, that you shall search out the Twelve, who shall have the desires of which I have spoken;
God is preparing people for tasks they are specifically asking to do; they just don’t know it yet. The more faithful you are at carrying it out with exactness, and letting go of your false teachings (ideations) about what you think you know about right and wrong (learned of men and sophistry), by doing or signifying the end result (accomplishing) what God has placed before you. Obstacles may be tough but part of learning is problem solving and coping until the problem can be solved, praying mightily!
These men were chosen because they showed a resilience and possibilities of successfully completing tasks they needed to do: for their own salvation first, that is how God chooses servants; his goals are secondary to the saving of the “one” soul: in doing he saves others along the way.
