The Doctrine and Covenants
Therefore I command you to repent–repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sore–how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not.

But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
In order to be elect and called of God you must endure it well: remember all will be called to repentance because none are perfect like Christ, and even he endured the chastisement of the father. He being perfect and having endured provides proof that truly all are partakers; so is being less perfect than he is ought to go through to ordeal. The rod of his mouth meaning the sharp part of the word of God that cuts the soul: some may never endure it and those men and women that do not are accountable as bastards.
