One could read this another way, God is being punished endlessly, with the weight he carries; being God, it is spoken that like Jesus he drinks the dregs of a bitter cup (what cup). I believe this to be the cup that he must pour out on the wicked, “the cup of the indignation of his wrath”: he being a loving God doesn’t want to punish us; however, not punishing those would lead to gross wickedness and advantage taken over the innocent. Thus the bitter cup of his responsibility is that he must punish, endlessly, those that despise him and his role.
